A solenoid valve is a specialized device designed to conveniently control the flow of a working fluid. This process occurs in a pipeline under pressure.
In a normally open solenoid valve, until control voltage is applied, the valve is open and the working fluid flows unimpeded. When voltage is applied to the coil, the valve closes.
