Las válvulas de guillotina son un tipo específico de válvula de compuerta que se utilizan habitualmente en industrias para el manejo de sólidos y lodos duros. Llamadas así por su forma, las válvulas de guillotina tienen una compuerta afilada, similar a una cuchilla, que puede cortar materiales viscosos o sólidos en el flujo. Se utilizan comúnmente en plantas de tratamiento de aguas residuales, fábricas de papel, operaciones mineras e industrias alimentarias, entre otras. Su función principal es iniciar o detener un flujo o ajustar su volumen, pero no controlan la presión ni el caudal.
