La válvula de compuerta está diseñada para ser instalada en la tubería como dispositivo de cierre y regular el flujo del medio en los sistemas de suministro de agua (excepto los sistemas de suministro de agua potable) y en la industria química.
El principio de funcionamiento de la válvula de compuerta consiste en mover la compuerta (cuchilla) perpendicularmente al flujo del medio. Cuando el diámetro nominal de la tubería está completamente bloqueado, se detiene el flujo, y cuando está parcialmente bloqueado, se regula.
