La válvula de compuerta está diseñada para su instalación en la tubería como dispositivo de cierre y regulación del caudal del medio en sistemas de suministro de agua (excepto suministro de agua potable) y en la industria química.
El principio de funcionamiento de la válvula de compuerta consiste en mover la compuerta (cuchilla) perpendicularmente al flujo del fluido. Al cerrar completamente el diámetro nominal de la tubería, se detiene el flujo, y al cerrar parcialmente, se regula.
