La válvula de compuerta está diseñada para instalarse en tuberías como dispositivo de corte y regular el caudal del fluido en sistemas de suministro de agua (excepto agua potable) y en la industria química. Su principio de funcionamiento consiste en mover la compuerta (cuchilla) perpendicularmente al flujo del fluido. El caudal se detiene cuando el diámetro nominal de la tubería está completamente obstruido y se ajusta cuando está parcialmente obstruido.
