La válvula de compuerta está diseñada para ser instalada en la tubería como dispositivo de cierre y regular el flujo del medio en los sistemas de suministro de agua (excepto los sistemas de suministro de agua potable) y en la industria química.
El principio de funcionamiento de la válvula de compuerta consiste en mover la compuerta (cuchilla) perpendicularmente al flujo del fluido. Si el diámetro interior de la tubería se cierra completamente, el flujo se detiene; si se cierra parcialmente, el flujo se regula.
